Typing Certificate
Turn a clean test result into a certificate you can attach to an application — with a verification link that proves the numbers weren't edited afterwards.
What the certificate contains
- Net WPM and raw WPM — the same scoring used across the site (5 characters = 1 word, errors subtracted; details in the scoring guide).
- Accuracy and consistency — because a WPM number without accuracy next to it is meaningless to anyone evaluating it.
- Test duration and scenario — a 60-second standard test reads differently from a data-entry or job-prep scenario, so the certificate says which one you took.
- KPH — included for data-entry scenarios, since those roles hire on keystrokes per hour rather than WPM.
- A proof code and verification link — the part that separates it from a screenshot.
How verification works
When the certificate is generated, its details — name, scores, duration, issue date — are encoded into a link, and a proof code is derived from that exact payload. Anyone who opens the link on our verification page has the code recomputed in their browser: if even one digit of the score had been edited, the code would no longer match and the certificate would show as invalid.
Honest framing: this makes the certificate tamper-evident, not supervised. It proves the numbers are the ones WPMRace issued, but not who was at the keyboard. Present it as self-reported proof — for example, "62 WPM / 98% accuracy, self-tested (verifiable link)" — and expect serious employers to run their own assessment anyway. Arriving with a verifiable number still puts you ahead of "good typing skills" on a résumé.
How to earn a strong certificate
- Use a 60-second or longer test. Short sprints inflate WPM and evaluators know it. A 1–2 minute certificate carries more weight.
- Aim for 97%+ accuracy first. A 55 WPM / 98% certificate beats a 70 WPM / 89% one for any real job. Employers read the accuracy column first.
- Match the scenario to the job. Applying for data entry? Take the data-entry scenario so your certificate carries KPH. Office role? The job-prep scenario mirrors what their test will look like — see requirements by job.
- Warm up off the record. Run two or three throwaway tests before the attempt you certify. Cold fingers cost 5–10 WPM.
For teachers
Certificates pair naturally with classroom mode: students who hit the class target generate their own certificate as an end-of-unit artifact. The verification link means you can spot-check any certificate a student hands in.
